CASUAL, QUICKNEASY
CAPE JACKET
(VARIATION ON A HUG-ME-TIGHT)
The fabric needs to be soft and drape
well - a lace weave in Mohair
is ideal. If using this, make the Main Yarn an attractive choice
also so the garment can be made reversible. Using this pattern
will make a random dyed yarn stripe vertically - like
a sideways
knitted garment.
The total depth at the centre back if
using my suggested
measurements will be approx. 78cm. If you want it deeper add
more stitches to the width. The length from cuff to cuff is 116cm.
Knit more rows to make it longer.
Decide on the type of fabric you want to knit, do your tension
square, and work out stitches and rows required. E-wrap cast on,
and knit a rectangle 58cm x116 cm. (or width and length required)
Cast off.
Knit 2 squares 58cmx58cm (or half the length of first piece).
Join
the centre seam of these 2 pieces for 20cm. Sew the 2 long edges
of the two rectangles together. Measure approx. 28 cm.down from
either side of this seam at the outside edges. Knit a cuff or
double
fabric piece (8-10cm in depth) if required between these markers.
Join from cuff marker to corner.
Knit a worm edging all round the outside edges to
finish off. If
the fabric is going to be reversible the edging needs to suit
both
sides. It is better to use the finer yarn if it is a woven fabric
and
make a reversible worm edging......
Begin at 1 corner and with 3 pronged tool
pull through 3 needles.
In suitable tension knit 6 rows. Turn fabric to other side and
repeat
- it means that the side of the fabric facing will alternate and
looks
the same from both sides.
Wear with the centre of the 2 squares
which have been left open at
the back of the neck.
Alternatives:
Knit 2 rectangles 118x56 cm. Join the rectangles together and
finish off the same.
Or use the join as the
centre back, fold rectangles in half, join to
18cm. past half way. Complete as in version 1
