Diablo
Blizzard
PCWhen
Blizzard, well known for their amazing
stratagy games, announce they are
creating an RPG , a genre which shares
some elements with the Strategy Genre,
you are sure to expect something
groundbreaking. Astonishing and the
Linke. And they delivered.
Despite
the fact Diablo is getting on a bit it
remains a great game to this day , an
innovative control system, sprawling
dungeon like quests and an adequate
story. Graphics wise the game is great,
using Prerendered backdrops with
prerendered sprytes was a stroke of
genious as it add's a real feel to the
gameplay, although making everything
slightly static.
Diablo is
set in a dark realm where the evil
Butcher, Diablo and henchmen have been
wreaking havoc, destroying armies like
most bad guys do. You are either Warrior,
Sorceror or Rouge and you must fight
against hordes of underworld minions to
save the world etc etc etc.
Adding
that extra element of Strategic Games is
the fact the game is mostly controlled
through the mouse. Moving is basically
and literally a click away. You learn
magic through books and then you assign a
spell to the mouse which then can be used
with a right click. Like all RPG's the
game features a HP and MP meter and
Leveling up is involved.
Where the
game shines most is in it's Online play.
There's nothing more satisfying than
defeating the game with two or three
allies by your side. Since it's release
an online following has grown (which now
mainly revolves around Diablo 2 however
some remain loyal to the original ) with
guilds popping up for people to ally
themselves with and groups of people
meeting each other regulary in a game.
Not only
is it fun but addictive and will keep you
coming back long after you finished the
single player game.
Evil has a
new name, it's Diablo (yes I know Diablo
is a latin word which has been around for
centuries but still it sounded good).
