     Fast and Sturdy

Mike Kennedy yacht "Audacious"

Yankee yachts was located in Coasta Mesa about 20 years ago.  The design is S&S and they were built like the proverbial brick S--- H-----.  John Shoemaker was the builder and he went out of business in the 70s because of the price of oil and his unwillingness to build a boat more cheaply.  I had a Yankee 38 and, while a bit slow because of the 2 inches of fiberglass in the hull, no boat was ever better built.   The only problem in the 30 was the engine which was a 1 cylinder French tractor diesel.  There are better small diesels now and it should be repowered.  They are fast and sturdy and you should enjoy it.  A friendof mine worked for John and ran the production line. If you have a specific question send it to me and I will try to get you an answer.
