Message: Ralph,
The HMS RoyalArthur I knew was a shore establishment that was based at Skegness during the war and later on after the war was transferred to an establishment at Corsham Wilts. This type of establishment on dry land though run as a ship was for obvious reasons known as a 'stone frigate'.

Message: My husband's grandad, Edwin Thomas John Wellington (deceased) served on HMS Dauntless during WW2. Did you know him?
We are trying to track down a photo of the ship. I have some photos of him on deck, but none that show the whole ship.

Message: My Father, Alun Pugh, served on HMS Royal Arthur as a Radio Engineer. Not sure what dates but guessing it was about 1943 because he then went on to serve on MTBs during the Normandy landings at Omaha Beach. He then left Plymouth on the SS Athlone Castle and sailed to Sydney via the Panama Canal where he was based on the HMS Tyne until the end of 1944. I beleive he was also stationed on another land based ship, the HMS Golden Hynd on the outskirts of Sydney on Warwick Farm Racecourse.

Message: Was just surfing the net when I came upon this site.
To the people who have connections to HMS Royal Arthur I would
like to say a big 'thank you' from one, who, as a child, enjoyed the
magic of the elaborate fire works displays which were organized for
the benefit of the local population for Bonfire night.
The long walk in the dark with family and neighbours, the crowds,
the lights, whizzes and bangs and then the long walk home made
those nights magic, a bit mysterious and memorable.

Message: I came upon this sight by chance. I have a photo of my father John McAdams at HMS Royal Arthur class 107, no idea of the date. He never spoke of the war, like many, and would not even take a boat trip on the Thames. If any one would like a copy of this photo they are welcome.

Message: HMS Royal Arthur was a shore establishment at Skegness, having before the War been Butlins Holiday Camp. I was there for 2 weeks only, following my compulsory transfer from the RAF. I was training in Blackpool as a Wireless Operator, when it was realised that there was an acute shortage of Telegraphists in the Royal Navy for the Second Front. I did a crash course in Naval Procedure in the Isle of Man, before serving on Minesweepers in the North Sea, based in Grimsby. Sweep Area was Flamborough Head to Sheringham.
