Spoilers: none

AN: It’s very disjointed, but stick with it. By the end it’ll be a jumble, but hopefully a good jumble. In any case it’s Toby and CJ.

It was just a burn.

Not third degree or second or even first…

Just a minor degree…just a burn.

“Toby, can you just…can you just shut up?” her fingers were dragging his attention. He glanced to her with a heavy breath, eyeing the office doorway.

“No, this is important.” He tried to ignore her teasing.

She huffed. “I wanted to seduce you tonight.”

“What does that have to do with Senator Wilkins and his 15 million dollar plot to take over the Senate floor?”

She shook her head in mild confusion, lanking it to his couch and relaxing. “What are you talking about?”

“Obviously not your seduction.” He smirked, promising they’d go back to her efforts later. Promising with his glance.

“Obviously not.” She sighed.

It stung a little, spreading over her skin.

The heat hitting farther across her, tracing the pattern of his fingers.

It only hurt a little bit.

Cuz it was just a little burn.

Minor smolder.

“I want you to stay here.” Her voice was small.

Begging as she kissed her way from his mouth.

“Okay.”

“It hurt…” sounding even younger.

He sighed, rubbing his fingers on bare skin, “I know.”

“We don’t have to always argue.” Her murmur hit his skin.

“Yes we do.” Was a soft reply in his voice.

They’d singe each other.

Small little embers…little flickers of light and flame.

Problem – cold fire.

How can a cold fire burn?

Far too easily…it was just a little burn.

And in the over all fire…small matter.

She blinked, “Are we okay…with the Wilkins thing?”

“Yeah, it wasn’t really a thing CJ.” His hands opened and she watched his finger with interest. He was holding a chewed up pen. Holding something…that wasn’t her.

Because they only held at night.

Or in the dark.

Or in the fire.

“It turned into one.” She murmured over her office desk, glancing at him quietly. “We end up arguing over stupid things.”

“Because we turn everything into a thing.”

“But that’s us.” Her tone complacent.

He agreed sadly, “That’s us.”

That’s the fire…

That’s the burn.

A minor degree.
