one. Because he likes her body. He likes the way she bends before she breaks, because it’s a sign he can be her hero. She bent a little under the midterms. She bent and turned and moved with the press, giving them his words at the movement of her body. Sometimes… She bent so far…she nearly broke. Once she did…and he watched it. She broke up over Qumar. Shattered to pieces for faceless women. He knew how much she hated falling apart in the wing hall. He knew every breath and turn of her skin as she broke. How she’d stand and argue the fate of women…with another woman. He hadn’t been there…but he knew exactly how she would have moved. He knew her voice would catch – because the beating was too close. He knew that her skin would be tight, and her eyes wet. Because women didn’t deserve to be beat because they were women. He knew the bend it took to meet the press moments later. The stretch she had to take, inhaling hard and stepping into that room. She wasn’t so broken anymore…just cracked. And yet...this time he couldn’t just watch. So he stood in the back, forcing her to feel his eyes. Forcing her to feel his reaching, moving towards her. His hands on his chest, and a smile touching her lips. It was still a sad smile. Knowing he was there, but knowing he couldn’t change the world. For that moment, she sealed the fate of the faceless women. And she did it with a joke. With a bend. “They’re just women Toby.” He stoked his fingers across her skin, letting her fall and turn into him. He knew the shape of her body from watching. He knew the curve of her shoulders, the arch of her back, from seeing. From studying and knowing. “I know.” A careful kiss to shivering skin. Her tears were glass, breaking on her skin. Her breath was twisting him inside, making him haul her tighter into his arms. Letting him tug her into a tight hold, his lips pressing into her hair. Forcing him to bend with her.
