From Newsgroups Posting:
I am wanting to contact from any relations of early Professional Photographers, English, Scottish, Welsh, Australian & New Zealand .... Any Professional photographers from 1840 to 1940 (Amateur Photographers only till 1880)
Of the 70,000 + Photographers so far in my data base, I only know what the Initials stood for, of less than 30% ... and this leads to great problems when sons (and other relations) with the same initials took over the business... etc.
As I seek to add biographical information to my Photographers Biography data base also, which will help in sorting out problems in data from other sources. (William - Bill problems etc.)
I am always looking for interesting data about photographers businesses, and even "funny" photographers stories.. (I had a Brides father drop stone dead at the alter after handing over his daughter to the groom !!)
I am also seeking Photographs of Photographers, and especially looking for photos showing early Photographic studios. (the later for advertising details, and the former because often in landscape photos, some photographers and their assistants show up as human Props in their own photos)
I also offer to help date CDV photographs (not London or Manchester), but am also looking for information on all Welsh and Scottish country CDV's...

New England Pioneer Register Update
The latest news on the Pioneer Register is that the work of data entry is progressing slowly but surely. As almost 1,300 entries were received the task is immense and we thank the volunteers who are undertaking this work on our behalf.
It is pleasing to see entries for pioneers who lived in every part of New England prior to Federation and to find that so many of them are women.
It is not anticipated that the book will be published before Christmas 2001 but anyone interested in obtaining a pre-publication order form (who hasn't already done so), should send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to our secretary at
P.O. Box 1378, Armidale NSW 2350 Australia - marked 'Order form'.Overseas readers unable to send a SSAE should enclose an addressed envelope marked 'Order form' and an international reply coupon.
Updates will appear from time to time here at our website.

Subject: MORE ON THE GRO CONSULTATION !

COUNCIL OF IRISH GENEALOGICAL ORGANISATIONS
Following representations, the Irish Department of Social, Community & Family Affairs, which is co-ordinating the current GRO consultation process, is considering extending the period during which submissions may be made. This is due to the fact that the 'GRO Project team' neglected to issue the consultation document 'BRINGING CIVIL REGISTRATION INTO THE 21st CENTURY' in the Irish language. As matters stand at present, this has still not been done. While it is important that those who wish to read the document and submit their views through the medium of Irish have the opportunity to do so, it would be no harm if those whose first language is English also lobbied the Department for an extention in the period of consultation. Over the past couple of weeks it has become clear that many interested parties were not even aware that consultation had begun.
Requests to extend the period of consultation to facilitate both English and Irish speakers should be e-mailed to:
rosemary.downes@welfare.ie
