29/08/2001 Entry: "PROJECT: Cornish Pioneers of Bendigo"

From a posting to soc.genealogy.australia+nz newsgroup:

This is a gentle reminder of the project we are currently putting together and to let you know that there must be a cut off date and it is coming up. We would like to have the database completed by the end of October at the latest so that the computer people can begin the process of putting into a format for cd production. I would love to have as many names as possible and for those who have already assisted with this project a big thank you! For those who have Cornish born pioneers who spent some time in Bendigo then we would love to have your contributions. Here is the run down of the project and the criteria we set for inclusions.

Thank you, Leanne

We (Cornish Association of Bendigo & District and Cornish Association of Victoria are attempting to compile a database of Cornish Pioneers of Bendigo and already the project has over 2,000 names.
This project is an attempt to document the many Cornish born pioneers who spent time in Bendigo at some stage in their life. We have tried to find as many names a possible but realise that this database is only the tip of the iceberg. The criteria we set when compiling this database was to record the names and biographical information of as many Cornish born pioneers as possible. The person ideally should be born in Cornwall and have spent a period of time (no matter how short) in Bendigo to qualify. The database also contains the names of some folk who were born outside Cornwall but to Cornish parents and who then came to Bendigo for a period of time. Where possible we have endeavoured to record the names of parents and year and place of birth in Cornwall. The name of spouse/s is included and year of marriage if known. If that spouse is also Cornish born then they too will have a record in their own right. Women are listed under their maiden name and where possible linked with their partners so that cross referencing is possible. Dates of death and place of death if outside the Bendigo area is included if known. The children born to the marriage are also documented so that further Cornish bloodlines can be established. If the information has been given by a family member or researcher then they are identified and information given about them for further contact if necessary.

We are hoping to have this project completed by early 2002 and would welcome input from people near and far. We are joining with the Victorian Cornish Association for this project and aim to have the database ready by March 2002.

For those who have internet access there is an online form at the Cornish Association of Bendigo and District's web page which can be found at the following address:
