28/08/2001 Entry: "WEBSITE: FIRST FAMILIES 2001 UPDATE"
The First Families 2001 database is coming to its forecast end on 31 December 2001. At the end of the year the State Library of Victoria will archive the database to provide a permanent searchable record as part of the Library's contribution to the Centenary of Federation year. The State Library of Victoria is aware of certain difficulties that users of the First Families 2001 database have encountered, such as the removal of the 'Search' function, PIN entry bar and 'Guest Book/Forum'. In some instances, however, access to the 'Search' function may be made via the Internet Explorer browser or Netscape version 6.1. The State Library of Victoria is seeking to retrieve the database so that faults can be rectified and the site properly archived. Until the State Library of Victoria has access to the database, faults can not be rectified, technical modifications can not be performed and lost or forgotten PIN's can not be provided.
The disappearance of the 'PIN entry bar' has occured within the past couple of days. At no stage has the State Library of Victoria instructed the host to remove this function or any others. Until we move through the current legal process and have the programme returned to the State Library of Victoria there is nothing we can do about modifications to the programme.
The Library is making its best endeavours to retrieve the database and address these difficulties, however, it is unknown when the State Library of Victoria will have possession of the database. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this transition.
