01/06/2001 Entry: "PROJECT: Australian Army's 2/19th Battalion during WWII"
2/19th BATTALION, AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL FORCES, WWII
by Bob Middleton rhmassociates@idx.com.au
I am compiling a database for all original members, Singapore Reinforcements, or anybody who was a member of the Australian Army's 2/19th Battalion during WWII. Did your grandfather, father, brother, cousin belong to this illustrious group of men who fought the Japanese army down the Malayan Peninsula until they were surrendered and became POWs? If you have information, I would only be too pleased to receive copies (papers, dairies, photos, anecdotes, etc.)
My interest lies in the fact that my uncle, Douglas Lindsay Cameron Middleton, was a member of this unit and did not survive the fighting on Singapore Island. I recently was able to photograph the grave markers for those who died as POWs in Borneo and who had known graves. These photographs can be seen at http://www.geocities.com/second19th/links.html along with other information on members that would be of interest to genealogists.
