COUNCIL OF IRISH GENEALOGICAL ORGANISATIONS
Following representations, the Irish Department of Social, Community & Family Affairs, which is co-ordinating the current GRO consultation process, is considering extending the period during which submissions may be made. This is due to the fact that the 'GRO Project team' neglected to issue the consultation document 'BRINGING CIVIL REGISTRATION INTO THE 21st CENTURY' in the Irish language. As matters stand at present, this has still not been done.
While it is important that those who wish to read the document and submit their views through the medium of Irish have the opportunity to do so, it would be no harm if those whose first language is English also lobbied the Department for an extention in the period of consultation. Over the past couple of weeks it has become clear that many interested parties were not even aware that consultation had begun.
Requests to extend the period of consultation to facilitate both English and Irish speakers should be e-mailed to:
rosemary.downes@welfare.ie
Kind regards,
Des C. Clarke
Hon. Sec.
