This has one point more damage than the Short Sword, but it doesn't make up for the difference in hit rate. It's somewhat close though, so it's a matter of preference.
MYTH/ORIGIN/OTHER GAMES
The Hand Axe is called the Battle Axe in the Japanese version. Axes are ordinarily used for chopping wood. A battle axe is a long-handled axe used for... battle. A battle axe appears in at least FF2 and 3, and a hand axe appears in FF4.
